New Water Treatment Plant to Alleviate Water Shortages in PP and Takhmao within the Week

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen confirmed to a crowd of nearly 20,000 workers in Pou Senchey district on the morning of June 13, that in the next few days, a water treatment factory will be officially inaugurated.

The PM said, "In the dry season, the water supply is low, but we have solved that. In the next few days, we will inaugurate the Bak Kheng water treatment plant to supply water to Phnom Penh and Takhmao. We will build more pumping stations for public use." The Prime Minister inaugurated the construction site of Bak Kheng water treatment plant on February 1, 2021.

The Bak Kheng water treatment plant project is one of the largest in Cambodia, with the ability to process an additional 400,000 cubic meters of water per day. The current plant can only produce 640,000 cubic meters per day, while the current demand is over 890,000 cubic meters per day. The opening of the new water treatment plant will more than meet the area’s clean water needs.

Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority has confirmed that starting in 2024, it will be able to produce more than 1 million cubic meters of clean water per day, which will ensure that people in Phnom Penh and Takhmao never run out of water again.
